CoachDeanHebert.com is an applied sports psychology mentoring community for runners and endurance athletes of all levels who want want professional instruction and the support of others in their quest to be the absolute best performer they can be. It is a community for ongoing learning where you can interact with your fellow members and everyone works together to improve not only their athletic performance but their effectiveness in all aspects of life.
How it works
Each month there is a lesson with associated assignments. Each lesson focuses on a specific mental game aspect of performance – athletic and non-athletic alike. It includes exploration and application of techniques and best practices. Sometimes we work on broad topics like focus. Or we might work on particular a technique such as using auditory senses to enhance focus. Other months we might work on a theme such as team building and team function and members can use a variety of applications and techniques to enhance their team and their role as a team member or team leader.
You can be assured that every month we will work on some aspect of applied sports psychology that will improve your mental game. Though we can learn from references and applications from other sports, our focus is for you – the runner. A real bonus for many students is that you will find that the techniques, best practices and the research supporting them apply to other aspects of life such as studying in school, paying attention in meetings, learning new material on the job or at school and in dealing with life events.
You can participate at the level you are comfortable. However, to get the most out of the site and the lessons, everyone is encouraged to contribute by completing the assignment in the lesson gallery. You will receive feedback on your work from Coach Dean and from the other members of the community. This is a safe and supportive environment where you can share your mental game challenges and be sure you will receive constructive feedback to help you improve. It’s not a competition, just a supportive learning environment.
There is plenty of time to take the feedback you received on homework and put the feedback into practice and add updates on your progress for the same assignment.
You will not only learn from feedback you receive on your homework, but also from looking at responses by other members and reading the feedback they received. You will even learn how to give objective critiques of your own. [Everyone is provided with feedback guidelines and etiquette and it is closely monitored.] We’re all here to help each other.
There is a forum where you can ask questions and request input on specific situations that are not part of the monthly lesson. (These may in fact be used as topics for in depth study in future monthly topics.)
There is also a section for learning resources including some resources that exclusive to the community. You won’t find them anywhere else. In fact, if you have ideas for new resources they can be submitted for consideration to be added to an active and growing list.
Is this community right for you?
If your primary interest is in improving your mental game, your mental toughness, your ability to focus, remain composed or you are looking to stay motivated, keep making progress, and improve every month in your chosen discipline, then this community is the right place for you.
This is not a counseling support group. We do not address clinical mental illnesses (such as depression, bipolar disorders, eating disorders, etc.). If this is what you are seeking then this community might not be the best fit. Our focus is the pursuit of performance improvement. If you seek the secrets to peak performance and performing at that level in your own life – then this is the place for you.
Greetings and welcome! I’m Dean Hebert. I’m an author and motivational speaker but first and foremost I’m a coach.
I work with individual athletes, parents, coaches, and teams on performance enhancement. I completed academic post-graduate work in sports psychology – the psychology behind athlete performance. I’m a certified Mental Games Coaching Professional (MGCP) and certified hypnotherapist. My clients include world-class athletes from a multitude of disciplines including, cycling (road, off-road, time-trials), running (off-road, cross-country, ultra-distances, track & field) duathlon, triathlon, tennis, synchronized swimming, golf, race-kart, soccer, motocross, volleyball, MMA, basketball, football and baseball athletes.
I have been cited in Runners World, Best Health magazine (CN), Marathon Running (AU) the Washington Examiner and SWEAT Magazine amongst many other publications. I have a passion for working with youth athletes and helping them apply mental game skills and techniques to all areas of life. Most importantly, my aim is to have people enjoy sports and life to their fullest through peak performances.
